The production company Twelve Energy Società Agricola srl, based in Cagliari, and the first and only Sardinian company to be a member of the Royal Flora Holland, is the first floricultural company to have obtained the new Mps Compact certification, thanks to the world’s largest greenhouse photovoltaic park.
The company, which recently completed its 4th year of activity, built a photovoltaic greenhouse system that spans a total area of about 61 hectares, including over 26 hectares of greenhouses cultivated with Corallo and Corallo Erecta variety berry roses, Patrucco selection, and cut roses. Twelve Energy also produces rooted rootstocks, cuttings, saplings for standard roses, and a whole range of garden roses, medicinal roses, cut roses, etc. Today, Twelve Energy, employing about 30 workers, can rely on a photovoltaic greenhouse park (in the “Su Scioffu” area in Villasor) with a total capacity of $20\ \text{MWp}$. The park is a record: the mega-plant can meet the annual consumption of 10,000 homes, saving $25,000$ tonnes of $\text{CO}_2$ (equivalent to the savings of a $3,200\ \text{hectare}$ forest). The project was fully financed with own capital, without resorting to regional funds, and was carried out with an investment of over 70 million euros (it is the first in Italy for the Indian multinational HINDUSTAN POWER PROJECT PRIVATE Ltd, formerly Moser Baer Clean Energy Limited), a leader in the renewable energy sector, and the American giant GENERAL ELECTRIC. The park has partial photovoltaic coverage, consisting of 134 greenhouses, with a total of over 84,000 polycrystalline silicon panels.
